Kid Sister New Tour Dates (and Jakwob Remix!)

The end of 2009 saw Kid Sister's star shoot fast and high, thanks to a solid debut album in Ultraviolet. So it's no surprise that she continues on this year riding her wave of success by offering a special thank you to fans...in the form of extending a number of tour dates throughout the Spring.

Kidsistertour

Last night, Kid Sister kicked off her latest round of tour dates at the Voyeur in San Diego. She continues tonight through April 10 on a North American tour with additional dates to be announced soon.

Check below for full run of shows, and then jump below that for Jakwob's dubby delicious remix of her next single, Daydreaming, due out April 19 via Asylum Records.

Tons of Friends...

Yesterday, I tuned in for the Crookers' live listening stream/party for their upcoming album, Tons of Friends. It got me moving...and it also got me thinking. It's been a while since I made any sort of push on the "hey follow me on twitter" front, so here you have it.

Twitterbox

If you aren't already following, why don't you start by clicking right here. If you were unaware, the following takes place via my twimeline: general shenanigans, releasing of exclusive tracks and bits of rad news...and the occasional, "ow I just got a paper cut" tweets.

As of this morning, I'm sitting pretty at around 1,870 followers (give or take a few at any one moment). Here's what I'm proposing. If I can reach 1,900 followers today on what we lovingly embrace as #FollowFriday, I will bestow a super rad and awesome album to that golden/milestone follower. Something that's not out yet, but something that we have our pretty little paws all over. (will DM winner with info)

Deal? Now go and follow!

Casiokids - En Vill Hest (new video!)

2009 saw the rise of Casiokids on my beastly-radar. After first bringing their Bergen, Norway bad-assedness (?) into my daily listening rounds nearly a year ago, we talked about them, caught them live, and to this date, we still haven't stopped dancing to their infectious blend of electro-pop music.

Casiokids

The Norwegian collaborative's debut album, Topp Stemning På Lokal Bar, will be released on June 8 via Moshi Moshi, and we're all sorts of excited for it's initial thrust into our yearning ears.

In the meantime, Casiokids recently unveiled a new video for En Vill Hest, loosely translated as "A Wild/Crazy Horse". The video, directed by Kristoffer Borgli, features a cereal geyser, pretty scary occult stuff and a young man dancing in front of a big mirror before he burns a wooden figure. Not sure what to make of any of the imagery, but one thing is certain, we dig this track. (also, is that swimming pool the same one as used in fellow Scandinavian Fever Ray's' When I Grow Up video?)

Casiokids are playing at least 6 different times throughout SXSW, so if you're going to the Austin festival in March, consider this my official request to you to attend in my absence.

Black Lips to Hit New York with Two March Gigs

Black Lipspurveyors of semi-psych garage bliss and self-described "flower-punk rock", are primed to infiltrate New York City with a set of dates in late March. Long a fan of the Atlanta, GA outfit, I can assure that their shows do not disappoint and that we'll be in attendance. Join us, won't you?

Blacklips

Black Lips are heading back on the road in support of last year's 200 Million Thousand album. They'll be rolling through our fine city, playing Brooklyn Bowl on March 23 and Bowery Ballroom on March 24. Box Elders and Violent Soho support at both venues.

Tickets and more information on each can respectively be found here and here.

Additionally, please enjoy a super stellar remix from last year. One of our faves? You bet.

SHAPERS' Debut LP - Little, Big - Out March 9

Hey hold up, wait a minute. Who are SHAPERS? New to Beastonia (in some facets) the Chicago quartet is compromised of Zaid Maxwell, Steve Reidell, Amelia Styer, and Todd Waters. You might recognize Reidell as one half of the power DJ-duo, The Hood Internet, where he goes by the name STV SLV. Consider our interest majorly piqued.

Shapers

This largely instrumental new band have come together to form sonic soundscapes that titillate and hit on every raw nerve. You can stream a trio of tracks here, but given the fact that they've made privy the entire album for my attentive listening, I'd highly recommend you purchase the full length when SHAPERS release their debut, Little, Big, on March 9.

Both the album and a downloadable version can be pre-ordered online here. The first 250 available copies of Little, Big will be screen-printed by the band.

SHAPERS will perform a record release show, supported by friends and fellow Chicago bands Old Fake and Driftless Pony Club, on Thursday, March 11 at 9pm at The Hideout. Show flyer here.

Beastly Bits #33

IT. JUST. KEEPS. COMING. DOWN. The snow, that is. After a few days of weird wintry mix here in NYC, the snow finally came to a fall. And by fall, I mean a huge dump of drifts and dastardly accumulation. Fittingly enough, our inbox keeps stockpiling up thanks to a superfluous couple of days.

No complaints here. So grab a shovel, and let's start digging through the cool stuff. (puns!)

Enjoy this fresh out of the oven video from Crookers. Festa Festa features Fabri Fribra and Dargen D'Amico and will be included on their upcoming album, Tons of Friends.

 Crookersfesta

Here's what the Italian-duo has to say about the brand-spanking new visuals...

Nominated for 11 Academy Awards, including best director, starring actor and of course soundtrack…

Featuring for the very first time Phra and Bot aka Crookers and homie Dargen D’Amico… (Fabri Fibra was home sick, don’t ask!)

MEN and Light Asylum: Mercury Lounge March 10

A pair of New York City acts bound to make you move are joining forces on March 10 for a night of killer music at Mercury Lounge. MEN, our favorite finds of '09 and Light Asylum, the up-and-comer also known in some circles as Shannon Funchess, will be bringing their blends of pop, dance, industrial and overall radness.

Menjd

Last year, we caught MEN open for Gossip at Terminal 5, and I'm telling you know, this show is not to be missed. Ticketing information can be obtained at this link.

The XX – Crystalised (Keljet Remix)

In case you haven't noticed over the past 6 months or so, I've been attempting to make a beast of an effort to bring more in-depth coverage and insight to each post. In the past, I'll be the first to admit that most of the material within would simply be a hot track or remix with no supporting or relevant information other than my raves about "how rad it was".

Keljet

And then along came Keljet today. Messing up everything I've been striving to achieve, in terms of robustly-informational pieces.

Here's what we know: Keljet are an electro/house duo from the Netherlands, consisting of one DJ and one guitarplayer. They've just finished a new remix and they think we just might like it!

They were right.

Grace Potter & the Nocturnals - White Rabbit (Jefferson Airplane Cover)

A lot has been made of the utterly disastrous soundtrack for the upcoming Burton-feature film, Alice in Wonderland. One cut you simply cannot lump with the rest, however, is the sensational cover of White Rabbit (fitting), that the Vermont-bred Grace Potter and the Nocturnals offer up on the disc.

Gracepotter

At their Burlington Waterfront Show in 2009, GPatN performed a live rendition of the song. Their cover really starts to get gritty around the 1:47 mark, and again at the 2:02 spot when a gnarly guitar riff makes a tidy home behind Potter's huskily-lovely vocals. The recorded version of the song is featured on the aforementioned soundtrack.

Watch the clip now.
