Introducing: New Vo Riche
Every now and again we tame our beastlier side and soothe our soul with a generous smack of indie soul and rock. Kiddos, that time is now, because I'm giving you a healthy introduction to Los Angeles 3-piece, New Vo Riche. Not only is their band name rocking my world (you know I love word play and puns) but their tunes have been a staple of my afternoon spins, of which there will be many more to come.
New Vo Riche was formed in Los Angeles, CA during the summer of 2009, making them quite possibly the newest and quickest addition to my listening repertoire. The trio mixes genres of indie, rock, folk and alternative, that which is demonstrated on their first EP, Rhetoric, which is available for free right here. The band is made up of three guys, two of whom are brothers and the third which might as well be. All three members go to different colleges across the country but they always find time to come together and make music. Dedication!
Don't Come Empty Handed will be featured on their debut album, Thing Parade, which is slated for a late June release via Century Park Records. There's something about this tune, its harmonies and soulful expressions that evoke a Chicago's If You Leave Me Now sort of vibe, and that's always a legit win in my book.
I'm also tossing you a second tune from the boys...Father and Son, which gets a little more emotional and ups the "Dylan-wailing" factor just a teensy bit more on this Cat Stevens cover. Both come Beaston-approved!
