Metric - Stadium Love (new video!)

In a twisted world of Oz (kind of), Metric's new video goes all "lions, and tigers, and bears, and Canadians, oh my!" Ha...I make myself laugh sometimes. What is super not-laughable yet extremely rad to the max, however, is the band's new new new video for Stadium Love. Let's get wild.

In a note from the foursome, they hint at who their new co-stars in the clip are, but if you know the lyrics of the song, then you can guess who they've enlisted to feature. Read on.

Hi everyone,

Recently we had the pleasure of making a video for our song Stadium Love with some new wild friends.

As one of the sentiments expressed in the song is man's disregard for the natural world around us, we were concerned with how the animals we would be working with would be treated.  Rest assured, not only were these animals treated with love, respect and tenderness, they were the stars.  The word divas comes to mind. It was perfect, we worked on their schedule and pace.

Needless to say, you will see what an amazing experience it was for us to be this up close and personal with these stunningly powerful Hollywood stars. Yes it is truly very close.

Literally...awesome. Watch now.

Rihanna - Te Amo (new video!)

Rihanna just debuted a new video for Rockstar 101 earlier this week...but who really gives two ishes now that the clip of Te Amo is out. Word to the wise, if you are at work and your officemates disapprove of steamy and suggestive actions of the RiRi-on-Girl variety, then I suggest closing your door before clicking play. Y'all been warned.

Rihannateamo

This is a fan favorite on her latest album, Rated R, and while Rihanna is still touring in support of the effort, she's also dropping many a hints that her next offering (which she's working on now) is going to be her best music to date. That remains to be seen and heard.

In the meantime, get sexy by watching the Barbadian beastly-beauty and co-star Laeticia Casta in the Anthony Mandler-directed video below.

Sure this whole act isn't unique, but wowza...girl crush confirmed, eh?

ceo - Come With Me (new song and video!)

Last month, we geeked for the mysterious ceo and his short teaser videor for Prologue. The recent Modular addition has kept fairly quiet over the past few weeks, but there's really no doubt now that the dude behind the chairman title is Eric Berglund of the Swedish duo, The Tough Alliance. Go Gothenburgians!

Come With Me is the latest installment of awesome from the lanky Swede, and it's a poppy slice of glistening goodness. Heck, we'll go so far as to say we could hear this on a children's show because it instills so much happiness every time we spin the song.

We'd refrain from letting the kiddos watch the video, though, thanks to that whole "cutter" scene. Both the audio and video, however, are fair game for you to take on.

ceo's debut album, White Magic, is out June 29 via Modular.

Kanye West (featuring Dwele) - Power (new song)

Yo Yeezy, where you been, brother? Hiding out, keeping his yap shut and apparently working on new material that's making our Friday heat the hell up, and it's still early! Earlier this month, rumblings started rolling that Kanye West would debut a new song during his Loop Dream Foundation's upcoming June 8 benefit. Charity y'all...cause it's out now, and it's generously slick and sick.

Kanyewest

Power is a classic West work...hater shoutin' lyrics (fuck SNL!), a steady, if not yet again Jesus Walks-esque militant beat, and Dwele (you'll remember him from his Flashing Lights croons) coming in to sing a bit. Real talk, I'm digging this song like a beast this morning, and it's undoubtedly ready to burn a path through our blog-world. (hat tip to Rap Radar on the scoop)

Also, no quality piece of Kanye killers would be complete without a hefty sample. Mr. West goes the prog-rock route by looping up King Crimson's 21st Century Schizoid Man.

Amazing.

Brian Wilson's Lost Rap Recording: Smart Girls

This is just a hearty head scratcher to send you off into Thursday night fun times. Seems like ol Beach Boy buddy himself, Brian Wilson, went and recorded a rap track in 1989 and it's done up and surfaced, so sure, we gave it a listen. Let the hilarity ensue.

Brianwilson

Got this info from some pals, so it's a copy and paste job we'll do, simply because they explain it much better than we ever could. (via Mixpak via WFMU)

In 1989 Brian Wilson began recording "Sweet Insanity", an album that was due for release in 1991 but was rejected by Sire. The album was made during one of Wilson's supposedly troubled periods when he was under the influence of psychologist Eugene Landy (who was listed as a co-producer) and included guest performances by both Bob Dylan and Weird Al Yankovic. The album has long been available as a bootleg and four of the songs were subsequently released on later albums.

"Smart Girls" was produced by Matt Dike, the co-founder of Delicious Vinyl who was also part of the production team behind hits by Tone Loc and Young MC. By varying accounts Dike was at one time a member of the Dust Brothers and responsible for a some of the production on The Beastie Boy's "Paul's Boutique" which was recorded in 1989 (roughly the same time as Wilson's album). You can actually hear some vague links as "Smart Girls" employs a similar cut-and-paste sample aesthetic (to far worse effect) as bits of past Beach Boy hits are chopped up and sprinkled throughout the song. "Smart Girls" was supposedly released as a promo to radio stations and Wilson played the song on the air during an interview on Dr. Demento's show in 1992. The LA Weekly dug up this "Brains and Genius" J-Card at a used record shop which may be the radio promo or something else entirely.

Awesomesauce.

Sheena Beaston Takes Over Accidental Rhythm on East Village Radio Tomorrow, May 28, 4-6pm

Way back when I was but a fledgling beast of less than "double digits" years old, my wildest "when I'm grown up" dream was to become a radio DJ who also was the first female president and a major league baseball player. Shenanigans! Thankfully, the latter two were fleeting and flighty at best, probably thanks to something I saw on tv or overheard my siblings waxing on about. The former is a "hell yeah" moment that we get to live out tomorrow!

Accidentalrhythm

Our buddy, Jason, who normally hosts the two hours of stellar music programming on Fridays from 4-6pm on East Village Radio, decided to jet outta town and take a vacation. Deservedly so, but lucky for us, he's entrusting his end-of-the-work-week time-slot to this beast, and color me all sorts of excited.

I'm ready to spin rad tunes, stutter over my words, and generally speaking, let you all listen to my ramblings. It'll be like you're reading this site, only you get to hear me in your ears too. Kickass! One of my latest "obsessed about" bands, The Hundred in the Hands, will also be dropping by the booth during that time to talk shop and help me play some killer tunes.

It's the Friday before Memorial Day too...so when that 5'o'clock whistle blows tomorrow, you better be tuned in (here) while I drop a dandy banger to set your long weekend off on the right foot. Let's get rad!

The Swell Season - Young Hearts Run Free (Candi Staton Cover)

Earlier this week, I let loose a piece of info surrounding Levi's, cover songs, and the new chaps who are taking on the timeless tunes. Last go 'round it was Nas doing his best Slick Rick. In this installment, we go grassroots via disco with The Swell Season, and their take on Candi Staton's Young Hearts Run Free.

Theswellseason

It;s the second in the series of Levi's Pioneer Sessions, and the Irish duo makes us forget that Staton ever had a disco-pop hit with her original. It's passionate and fragile, with a throttling of deep bass drums that turn the classic upside down and out.

Say word...this is spectacular.

Getting to Know Holly Miranda's Sleepless World

Being the known insomniac that I am, it's a pleasure to sit down and chat with an individual who experiences the same restlessness. Hell, if all that's required to construct a stunning solo album is to stay awake more than not, than Holly Miranda has the formula down pat. With the release of The Magician's Private Library earlier this year, the Brooklyn-via-Detroit singer/songwriter tackles the shortness of slumber, whether it's a conscious effort or not.

Hollymiranda_interview

Miranda's just wrapped her East Coast tour, which came to a conclusion last night at Bowery Ballroom. Performing a large portion of the recent disc, she also covered Yoko Ono and Etta James, two dynamically different singers/songs done with grace and poise. Up next, Holly heads to Australia for a mini-tour but we wanted to have a proper talk with her prior.

Below, you'll find part one of the interview.

If you like what you hear, then head to East Village Radio to give an ear to the second half of the Q&A.

Kelly Rowland - Shake Them Haters Off

You might be a bit surprised if I told you that the song I've played most frequently this week comes from Kelly Rowland. Whoa beast, whoa, right? In actuality, if you know me well, then this comes as no shock to you. With a light piano intro that slinks into a shit load of hand-claps over a jumpy beat, Ms. Rowland's clear vocals coo my new mantra: "Wake up in the morning, turn off my alarm, and give a stretch and yawn, and start shaking haters off!"

Kellyrowland

According to sources, Shake Them Haters Off will be Kelly's first official single pending her upcoming, as-yet-to-be-titled or given a release date, album. The track will begin to receive radio play on June 15 with more details on official remixes and release dates for the single still pending.

This eclipses Commander and On & On as the initial output, even though the former has already been given a music video rub. No mind though, Haters is a fun and free summa jam that just makes me smile.

Ok, commence the ridicule now...cause I'll just shake yo hate off, mm hmm!
