i-D Magazine Celebrates 30 Years
i-D is the iconic British publication dedicated to all things rad-centric in the fashion, music, art and youth culture. It was founded by designer and former Vogue art director Terry Jones in 1980, making this year the 30th anniversary of it's existence.
i-D is known for its innovative photography and typography, and over the years established a reputation as a training ground for fresh talent. Photographers Chris Dowling, Wolfgang Tillmans, Juergen Teller, Terry Richardson and Ellen von Unwerth, Kayt Jones have produced work for the magazine.
With this month marking the benchmark year, past, present and future stars become legends under the umbrella of THEN, NOW and NEXT. From rapstars to trapstars, supers to trannies, i-D conducted a 3-week celebratory photoshoot at Somerset House, collaborating with Nick Knight, to document the turn of the decade. From cover to cover, the portraits will run throughout the THEN Pre-Fall issue. Almost 200 people took part in the breathtaking project, including The xx, Phoebe Philo, Sir Paul Smith, Florence Welch, Vivienne Westwood, Lara Stone, Pink and Gareth Pugh. Shot entirely in black and white this will be a collectors issue of the future and an important marker in time, made even more spectacular with three cover stars; Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Lady Gaga.
The 3 issues will be out on August 12 (THEN), September 23 (NOW) and November 11 (NEXT). Check out a sneak peek at the covers below.
