Azari & III to Release Debut Album on July 29

Afrobeta's Play House EP is Out Now

Furthering on into territory known as "wow SheenaBeaston.com is the bastion of all things timely and relevant, and UM HEY WAIT... it's been over 3 years since she actually wrote about this band...", this afternoon's cochlear treats come courtesy of Afrobeta. Miami born and bred, they're priming debut album Under the Streets for a late summer outing, and have recently released their Play House EP, in which this lead single and subsequent remixes have been getting lots of the radly love.

 

 

Ok, so the original, Play House, jumps in with a burst of energy, seeing Cuci Amador's unique vocals paired neatly alongside Tony Smurphio's nasty funk. And then there's this whole bit which lasts from about the 1:44 through 1:58 sequence in which a Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam-esque vocal progession and cadence totally seals the deal for me.

 

And the mixes make for fine fun as well, coming courtesy of Alexander Technique and Junior Sanchez, Larry Tee and Sounduo. Not quite sure which is my favorite yet, so in that case, I'mm'a just keep listening to them all repeatedly.

Heartsrevolution Release New Song; Free Mixtape Out on May 30

For your Wednesday ear perusal, we've got the first track from the new Heartsrevolution mixtape. It's called I.D. (Investigate Discovery) and is a good taster of what the band has been up to during their hush hush hiatus.

 

 

PS: apparently, Heartsrevolution are being managed by Kanye West's manager now, so whatever that's worth... cool. And the mixtape sounds like it is going to be awesome, per the sampler below.

Azealia Banks - 212

Well hello schizoprenifavorite rap of the summer! Way way waaaaay back in early 2009, I hailed and heralded the quick-lipped spit and flow of a youngster named Azealia Banks. Dropping verses on a Ladytron track was so "ohhh-nine" though, because jump to today and we're totally grooving on this ridiculously rad shout out to the isle of Manhattan.

 

 

212 is her latest effort, a lewd-laced cut that places Banks' unique tones above, um, are those "house elements"? Yes, they are. Amidst the b, c, n, s and f-words, you must pay attention to two wildly fantastic switch up beat tricks, first at the :45 mark and then again at the 2:17 stamp.

 

She also sings in this "snarl growl" for a few seconds that's half snarky, part serious and all amazing.

 

Get it and love it.
