The Knocks Make Everything Better By Giving Me Something I Can Dance To and Just Generally Being Rad at Music

Yeah, it's as simple as that long ass post title up above, but local dudeboys, The Knocks, really know how to get my goat. No wait, that means they'd irk me right? Phrase fail. Anyway, B-Roc and JPatt do know one thing, if all else...and that's how to make really solid pop tunes. And how to make me smile and dance and feel really good. So in essence, that's way more than one thing, but shucks, I'm too much in a "lovin' on these tunes" kind of mood to care.

In addition to pumping out sick remixes and producing works for up-and-coming need-to-knowers, these two cool cats have their own thing going on...and that's in the form of their original constructions.

Up first we've got Make It Better, a whistler of a clap-happy track that immediately transports me to daydreamsville, in which I'm on a beach, toes in sand and drink in hand. It's like a mini-vacation every time I toss this gem on. Then we move onto Something I Can Dance To. Boys, you've already sold me with the title...and then the song begins and yeah, it's totally a sweet slice to shimmy and shake to. On this cut, the pair swiped Alphabeat's DJ as a base, cranked it up and turned it out with this mass appealer.  It's an immediate piece of radness, and it got a little extra lovin' when I spun it on EVR last Friday.

If you're not up on The Knocks...start here. Cause soon you'll be gettin' down with 'em too.

Alphabeat Cast a Pop Spell at Santos Party House

UK-based Danish pop band, Alphabeat, rounded out their first trip to the States with a debut New York City performance on March 23, 2010. Having already won over a crowd in Austin during last week's SXSW, the fire burning beneath this band on the rise only got hotter with last night's fantastic set.

The Scandinavian sixsome were welcomed to the stage with thunderous applause. A rowdy crowd of dedicated Stateside fans filled the room at Santos to capacity, and they didn't stop singing and dancing the ewntire night, as the pop troupe powered through hits like Fascination, Boyfriend and The Spell. (video of finale, Fascination, is a short scroll down)

Main man, Anders SG, commented on the fact that the audience knew every word to each song, remarking "the album isn't even out here yet, but it's good you know the words, no matter how you got the album!"

Between the complimentary vocals of Anders and Stine, complete with a tight backing set, their quick and pop-filled performance was one that new and existing fans won't soon forget. The band extended their genuine appreciation to the excited concert-goers before jumping off stage and over to the after party at Darkroom, where the night ended with dancing, drinks and an Alphabeat DJ set.

Beastly Bits #10

I am in the funkiest mood ever today. The hair looks great, the clothes = on-point and after a shaky start to the day yesterday, the final hours of the day prior turned out mega super rad. But more on that later.

Naturally, when good stuff happens for us, we love paying it forward. Hell, you were getting these links anyway, but after all my words, I'm dumping a ton of tracks that I love on you...some for relevant reasons and others just cause they copntinue to rock my world.

Hussle Club is Prince Terrence, a noted NYC nightlife fixture and drummer for Santigold, Spank Rock, HEARTSREVOLUTION amongst others. I Have High Expectations For What I Want To Be But In The Mirror I Don't See Them Staring Back At Me and RCRD LBL has floor-friendly remixes from regulars Felix Cartal and Bird Peterson. Dragonette gear up to hit the road with Little Boots and Fan Death. Dates here, but sadly none in NYC (boo), so to remedy, gobble up a new remix of Pick Up The Phone by Arithmatix! (the alias of Micahel Van She). Ryan McGinley substitutes naked hipsters with collaboration-prone actress Tilda Swinton in a new short film for Pringle Of Scotland. Watch the gorgeousness ensue here. Muse announce 4 additional live shows through the end of Spring. Their third single, Resistance, from their latest album, will be released in the UK on February 22. Details on all this can be found here. Melbournian-DJ Andy Murphy's previous project was Citylife, which hit a beat of heat a while back on the blogs. His new collaboration with DJ Jori, however, is Jam Xpress, and they've dropped by with their Re-Jam of The Jackson 5's I Want You Back. It's free below.
