Recap: Jelly NYC's Block Party on August 1

Well, it wasn't quite the raging block party atmosphere that we had every intention of expecting, but with free spirits flowing and showing at All Saints prior to the band/Brooklyn Bowl portion of the afternoon, Jelly's Block (not pool) Party on August 1 brought out a solid group of super fashionable and friendly kids.

With the All Saints lounge kicking off the afternoon with DJ sets from Apache Beat's Ilirjana and DJ Whitney Fierce, a number of local friends, old and new, gathered for imbibings of the no-cost kind. Dodgeball was still in effect, albeit 2 blocks down on Kent, and the live performances, well those were relegated to Brooklyn Bowl. Sets came courtesy of ArpLine, Darlings and Ted Leo.

Next week, the Pool Party returns to the Waterfront, and it's the Modular-curated party, aka, the one we're most looking forward to, because Cut Copy, Memory Tapes, Glasser and Restless People will be taking the stage, along with PUNCHES providing the in-between set spins. Yay.

Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes - Home (ArpLine Remix)

Taking an originally whistle-happy track, local lads, ArpLine, get all up in our afternoon player pleasures with a fantastically unique mix of Home, a track from their pals, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes. Whew...that seemed like a lot of words, yeah?

Want even more words to describe their fixer-upper?

Rubbery synth beds. Echoed out harmonies. Big deep drum hits. Awesomeness. Dark and mysterioso dubs and rubs. Killer. Rad. Lovely. Dramatic.

I can go on...but I'd rather tell you that ArpLine are set to release their debut album, Travel Book, later this fall with a string of summer tour dates to be announced soon. Definitely check them out. I did...and they are quite the cochlear treat, which sounds way dirtier than it really is.

Introducing: ArpLine

ArpLine, a Brooklyn quintet new to the eyes and ears of Beastonia, is one name you should familiarize yourselves with. See, over the next few months, I can envision posting quite a bit about these lads. After hearing blips about 'em over the past year or so, I made my way to Under 100 on Saturday night for an intimate DIY gig that cuts to me this morning, in front of my computer, spinning their disc on repeat. Mega win.

The five-some of Sam Tyndall, Adam De Rosa, Michael Chap Resnick, Oliver Edsforth and Nathan Lithgow are a band of rad dudes who come together to create an ambient, 60s garage and psych rock influenced sound. Having caught a bit of buzz in the blog world, and now with upcoming live dates including a support set for School of Seven Bells, ArpLine are easily a "top 5 beastly band to watch" through the rest of the year.

Playing at the tiny and exclusively rad space, Under 100, on Saturday night, the band performed a 30 minute set of songs from their 10-track songbook. Matching atmospheric tones with their frontman's unique vocal stylings, ArpLine created a cool refuse from a hot Spring night. While certainly not the most polished of acts, their passion and potential is part of their ever entrancing charm.

My suggestion? Check out this budding troupe on any of the below dates...all coming up sooner than later. They're only going to get better and better with each stop.
