Everything Everything Cover Rihanna's What's My Name on Radio 1's Live Lounge

This happened on Tuesday morning, but it's about to tickle your fancy today. Everything Everything, that British art rock band who draw wildly affecting sounds of math rock, post-punk and electropop into one fun substance, took to BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge, and as all good performers do, went with a cover of a currently popular tune. Oh nah nah, what's their name? Everything Everything doing doing Rihanna Rihanna justice justice with with What's My Name, What's My Name.

Snagging backing vocals from Sunday Girl (who previously wowed us with a revision of EE's Photoshop Handsome) and Lianne La Havas, their funky, reggae-tinged and soulful cover of the chart-topper has me begging for more.

Hey, let's play it again... Oh nah nah, oh ya ya!

Robyn - Indestructible (A-Trak Remix)

Open your ears and hearts you little beasts...for something so worthy of your attention that I didn't even listen to A-Trak's remix of Robyn's Indestructible all the way through before opening up this page to start writing and posting and swooning. So now, I'm doing all three of those actions whilst the remainder of the song plays and you should probably join me on this sexy lil' journey right now.

Annie Mac debuted this fix on her Friday night show over on the BBC's Radio 1. Love ya girl, but hey musicians, DJs and producers, how's about sharing the wealth with another chick who's got the Thursday night radio radness tip on lock here in the States.

Love this.

Marina & the Diamonds Cover Magnetic Man's Perfect Stranger on Radio 1's Live Lounge

This is on some next level operatic dirge effects. Marina & the Diamonds stopped by BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge, and here's yet another fantastic cover in their ongoing series. (thanks rohin)

Magnetic Man (featuring Katy B) - Perfect Stranger (Live at Maida Vale)

I can't even...this is so good it makes me want to cry.

Real feelings...FELT.

Skream, Benga and Artwork (collectively Magnetic Man) perform Perfect Stranger with vocals from Katy B at the BBC's Maida Vale studios.

Kylie Minogue Covers HURTS' Wonderful Life on Radio 1's Live Lounge

Just a few days ago, I lauded Foals' for their cover of Swedish House Mafia's One (Your Name), which took place on Radio 1's Live Lounge.

Today, we've heard Kylie Minogue doing HURTS' Wonderful Life on the program, and there's really not much else you need to say about that, other than...

Foals Cover Swedish House Mafia's One (Your Name) on Radio 1's Live Lounge

Oh wowee zowee who what and howee! On a recent trip through BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge with Jo Whiley, and as all guests who trek through her timeslot do, Foals performed a few songs from their recent album, Total Life Forever. On top of that, their cover song selection was one I had not anticipated in the slightest, yet it works quite nicely, as the boys give their best go at Swedish House Mafia's One (Your Name). Just...oh yeah!

The original track has been burning up dance floors both stateside and internationally, and one might insist that had this Oxford band created this song as performed live in the lounge, it would still be quite the chart topper it is as of now.

The  boys say: "It's got a really good energy to it...so we felt like we wanted to go back to our roots. It also has a topical reference to where we recorded the album at..."

Obviously, the release was crafted in Sweden. Obviously, I am 100% in love with this cover.

The Pretty Reckless - Love The Way You Lie vs Islands (Eminem, Rihanna vs The XX Cover)

This happened on the BBC's Radio 1 Live Lounge. The Pretty Reckless power their way through a mashed up rendition of The xx's Islands and Eminem and Rihanna's current chart topper, Love the Way You Lie.

I kind of dig it.

Mary Anne Hobbs Resigns from Radio 1

Mary Anne Hobbs, the legendary dub-head DJ on Radio 1, has announced that she will be leaving the BBC. After 14 years of serving the station, the Breezeblock host will end her tenure as one of the medium's finest on September 9.

In an official statement, via her MySpace page, Hobbs announced her resignation. Her words, as such, below. Super sadcakes.

After the statement, check out a video exclusive following Hobbs around her recent trip to NYC. Big ups to my pals Mitch and Oliver who aided in the production for URB!

Yesterday i resigned from BBC Radio1, after an amazing multi-dimensional 14 year career.

The great freedoms the BBC have given in me as a broadcaster, have allowed me to help break so many confrontational artists as diverse as Slipknot and Skream, and of course, the whole genre of Dubstep in recent times.

My current Experimental show is in peak condition, it’s never been stronger. And although it’s a very emotional decision to leave the show that I love so much, it’s also an optimum moment to bow out, at the very top of my game.

My work for Radio1 on the Breezeblock, Rock Show, many fascinating documentaries about everything from David Bowie to Dubstep, on daytime, at festivals and award ceremonies, has been exceptionally rewarding. These have been glory days not just for me, but for all the artists who have shared my BBC platform, and of course, the listeners everywhere from Beijing to Berlin, Baltimore to Blackpool, who shared a great passion for future sound.

I will continue to DJ live, work in film, and curate at Sonar festival in Barcelona.

I have also accepted a new job mentoring and teaching students at the University of Sheffield’s Union Of Students radio station, TV station and the newspaper that operate out of their superb Forge Media Hub, which presents me with a really exciting new challenge.

My last show on BBC Radio1 will be broadcast:
September 8th>>9th … Wednesday night >> Thursday morning… 2-4am

Thank you so much for listening.

Mark Ronson: Album Art and Annie Mac Mix

This weekend started off with a bang [bang, bang], when Mark Ronson called in to Annie Mac's Friday show on BBC and had a proper chat and wax with the radio personality. Discussing his new album, Ronson also provided Ms. Mac with the evening's 5-minute minimix, which he dubbed Synth and Synthability. Punny!

Before spinning the mix (the second, after his 2007 amazing contribution), Annie announced that Mark would be joining her lineup at Ibiza Rocks this year. Major!

Additionally, Ronson unveiled his new album's artwork, which is an homaged nod to Duran Duran's Patrick Nagel-designed Rio art. View the full image below, then grab the mix after that!
