Recap: Linkin Park Played Their First Show in 2 Years at Best Buy Theater

Ok, so the Best Buy Theater has existed in its former state as the Nokia Theater, but since the re-branding and re-doing of the venue under a new moniker, BBT is now home to a 2100 person capacity music hall in the midst of Times Square. Last night, the inaugural show at said space welcomed alt-rockers, Linkin Park, to the stage, for a frenzy of beats, boys and lots of black t-shirted fans. No lie, not the hugest fan of the gents here, but hell if they don't put on one heck of a show that speaks right into everything their dedicated followers love.

Playing their first full show in nearly 2 years, the boys from Agoura Hills, CA were in town to celebrate the release of their new album, A Thousand Suns, which had come out a few short hours prior to their 9pm show time. A rather polite and quiet group of concertgoers immediately turned up the noise and applause as the curtains drew, and the solitary figure of beatmaster Mike Shinoda emerged, standing behind a keyboard and microphone.

Lights flashed and more band members infiltrated the stage, before frontman Chester Bennington emerged like a whirling dervish to the ecstatic and enthusiastic screams of those in attendance. Opening with The Requiem, from the new disc, the troupe traveled through a number of songs, from what I've been told, stemmed mostly from older releases, while choosing to only perform a  few choice cuts from A Thousand Suns.

Ultimately, you won't find me a hardcore LP-convert, but sure I'll give 'em their due. Energy, rock, roll and rage course through their live presence, thanks to 15+ years of giving all they've got. Good on ya.

Big thanks to Ultragrrrl and Best Buy Theater for accommodating us last night. The full gallery of pictures from last night's event can be viewed here.
