Crookers (featuring Roisin Murphy) - Royal T (Foamo Remix)

Rather quietly, innit, that Crookers released the single, Royal T, from their debut album, Tons of Friends. And rather radly still, we continue to hit play on the Roisin Murphy vocaled song, because it's dirty dancey fun and now with it's proper offering, the remixes hti just as hard and just as huge.

Crookers_royalt

Now, let's not make it as if we're behind the times, because a number of official mixes of the song have already made a play for our ears in recent months. But with a drop 2 days ago via Ministry of Sound via Germany via their biggest package for the single as of yet, it's due time we feature the brills-ness of this badass song.

Official fixes come from: Riva Starr, Foamo, House Moguls (House of House), Panton, Kashii and Danton Eeprom. Spanning genres from dubstep to electro house and progressive, this package is one that will pelase all ears.

You can dig into 3 of the remixes in the player below, then after that, freshen up your music library with the Foamo fix. My favorite might be that House of House slice of sinfully spectacularity. Buy the single/EP here.

Last Night: So You Think You Can Dance's Blog-Worthy Musical Selections

It's rare that I find myself perched in front of a television in the evening hours during the week, especially during the summer months. Usually at a show, a friend's abode or perhaps a watering hole, last night, I stayed in thanks to a head cold, and found myself drawn into watching FOX's So You Think You Can Dance. Far be it from me to turn to reality programming, however, over the past few seasons of the show, it's one that I can always count on to entertain.

Soyouthinkyoucandance

This season's "catch" is that the top 10 (now 9 and after tonight's results, 8) dancers are paired up with "all-stars" from previous seasons. For this music-minded telly-tuner-inner, however, it's the song choices that highlight some great, and some ooof yikes, choreographed numbers. SYTYCD has always had a solid rapport for choosing slightly "obscure for the general public" styled songs. (Think Roisin Murphy's Ramalama Bang Bang in Season 2.)

Now in its seventh season, last night's episode proved no different...although this go 'round, both the partner dances and individual solos were dotted with tunes known well throughout the land of blogs. If the show maintains this heightened level of musicality, you can assure I'll skip a few more venue gigs, stay at home to watch, then most likely embarrass myself by learning the choreographies.

Ladies and gentlemen, beasts, boys and girls...here are the blog-worthy routines, with video evidence.

Savage Skulls (featuring Robyn) - Bad Gal

Shit, beasts. Why has no one been talking about this track, when, in all it's potentiality form, could very well be one of the biggest choons of the year? Maybe because there's been little to no information surrounding it, but thanks to a bit of the net diggings, I can offer up a splash of stuff surrounding Savage Skulls upcoming track with Robyn...Bad Gal.

Savageskulls

Ok, so maybe I fibbed a bit? But there's not a whole lot to know about this jawn. Other than, the original, which still remains to be heard, a little lot of sleuthing led me to find a snippet of Crookers' remix of the song.

Additionally, Douster mixed up a bit of Busy Signal and Vybz Kartel with the track and stream it we shall.

And that, in a nutshell, is the mystery song that I'm most looking forward to hearing in the coming weeks. Anyone got more info on the developments? Feel free to let a beast know.

Beastly Bits #47

Lots to filter through today. Shall we just get started?

Yeah, that sounds like a plan!

Metallica and Black Sabbath are teaming up for a special one-off joint release. The rock legends are both contributing a track to a 12-inch vinyl single which will be limited to just 1000 copies to celebrate Record Store Day on April 17. The release features the UNKLE remix of Metallica's Frantic and a version of Black Sabbath's Paranoid with alternative lyrics. More details here.

Speaking of UNKLE, the band's fourth proper album, Where Did The Night Fall, is now available for pre-order via online stores. Get your "buy fingers" ready and head over here.

London's Punks Jump Up are some of our favorite badass knob twiddlers, and they get even beastlier by giving away their March Mix for free. This is the first in a new series of DJ mixes from the dudes. Watch out for upcoming installments, which will include more brand new PJU remixes of artists such as Miami Horror and We Have Band. Download the mix here and a track below that they feature in the full onslaught.

Crookers (featuring Steed Lord) - Transilvania (new video!)

This is one of my favorite songs from Crookers' album, Tons of Friends. It features Steed Lord, and now there is a video. I'm not writing any more because I'm sick as an ol' dog.

twack marks #15 - Crookers - Tons of Friends

If the simple release of a track list can make you desire to hear an album, then let Crookers' debut, Tons of Friends, be the barometer for all your pre-yearnings for a good listen. Corralling guests like Kelis, Roisin Murphy, Drop the Lime, Miike Snow and more, the Italian DJ-duo easily eclipsed my highest level of "wanting to hear" way before any tracks were let loose.

Twack marks_crookers

Sure they've got loads of lads and lasses in their corner, but how does this all stack up when given a proper twack marking? Let's listen in!

Let me say, that on first listen in its entirety last week during their official streaming listening party, I was floored with the variety of guests and musical tones pumping forth. Credit it to a virgin hearing experience, because when we threw on the album today, something entirely different happened.

Sure there are tons of friends, but there is also a slow start to really getting into the album. Save for the Pitbull feature 3 tracks deep, the album really doesn't showcase the boys' talents until 8 cuts in, when they rope in Yelle for a French boudoir bumper. The majority of songs we favor are those in which they do enlist the support of the female vocals. Maybe it's the feminine vs masculine disparity that they were able to harness, but regardless, each of the womanly-warbled tracks sit high atop our list of best of the album.

As a full album, it's not one we'll go back to very often, save for those few tracks. Take the Roisin Murphy-voiced Royal T; easily a contender for top dance floor filler of the year so far. Intermittent cheers for the dudes on their debut.

Beastly Bits #17

Grammy's aftermath! Did you watch? Were you pleasantly surprised or perfectly stunned? I have my thoughts even though I didn't watch this year. Thankfully, my twitter feed was blowing up with oft hilarious commentary.

Yes, the Grammy's were held last night with Beyonce being the biggest winner of 'em all. For a full list of nominees and award winners, please direct your browser here.

We Have Band had one of my favorite songs in 2008 with Oh! They are finally releasing their debut album, WHB, on April 5, with the first single, Divisive, out on March 22. To celebrate they're giving away the song Honey Trap, and I'm giving you my aforementioned fave. Grab both below.

Hot Chip are streaming One Life Stand in its entirety on their MySpace. They will also be performing a "not-so-secret" and free MySpace show at Highline Ballroom this Friday. Good luck getting in.

I've been crushing on the few Crookers' tracks they've let out of the bag, from their upcoming LP, Tons of Friends. Steed Lord remixed their song, Transilvania, done with the Italian DJ duo and it's all yours below. Get ready to grin.

Williamsburg's The Woods is hosting ROCK + RESCUE tonight, with all proceeds donated to the Haiti rescue relief efforts. Info here.

Beaston-faves, The Fire and Reason, play Mercury Lounge tomorrow, Tuesday January 26. They go on at 7pm and are opening for Ebony Bones (ticket info here). The duo has also released a new, exclusive track for us to hear. Grab Crawl below. Florence + The Machine has already started working on tracks, which she describes as "heavier" and "punkier" than her debut. Like Lungs, the album is being produced by Paul Epworth, who has worked with the likes of Primal Scream, Bloc Party and The Rapture. Read and watch more here. Enigmatic YouTube-user, iamamiwhoami, is back with a 3rd installment of their mysterious videos. Latest guesses still swirl around Goldfrapp, Christina Aguilera, and now include The Knife (in regards to their Darwin-opera) and now The Golden Filter. Have a guess? Let us know after watching here. Speaking of the London electropop-pair, Goldfrapp officially release first single, Rocket, from upcoming album, Head First. It leaked last week, and I'd be and idiot to post up the hi-qual mp3...instead, stream it here. Crookers continue to promote the heck out of their upcoming LP, Tons of Friends, by offering up another free cut from the album. Grab the Steed Lord-featuring track, Transilvania, over at RCRD LBL.

Beastly Bits #10

I am in the funkiest mood ever today. The hair looks great, the clothes = on-point and after a shaky start to the day yesterday, the final hours of the day prior turned out mega super rad. But more on that later.

Naturally, when good stuff happens for us, we love paying it forward. Hell, you were getting these links anyway, but after all my words, I'm dumping a ton of tracks that I love on you...some for relevant reasons and others just cause they copntinue to rock my world.

Muse announce 4 additional live shows through the end of Spring. Their third single, Resistance, from their latest album, will be released in the UK on February 22. Details on all this can be found here. Melbournian-DJ Andy Murphy's previous project was Citylife, which hit a beat of heat a while back on the blogs.
