Specimen A's cover, re-rubbed, flipped and dubbed the whooooaaa out take on Foreigner's Cold As Ice is not new if you've been a proverbial blogdigger* over the past six months or so. But I woke up thinking about it, for whatever reason, and playing it gives me a perfectly good excuse to post a clip from one of the best television series ever. It's all below, and it's all rad.
Grimesauce with a lushy underbelly! Redlight is quickly becoming one of the hottest producers in the UK and with the addition of Ms. Dynamite's explosive vocals, we've got quite the burner on our hands, in our eyes and ears. What You Talkin' About? I'm talkin' about getting some dutty whinin' on up in dis piece!
Rather quietly, innit, that Crookers released the single, Royal T, from their debut album, Tons of Friends. And rather radly still, we continue to hit play on the Roisin Murphy vocaled song, because it's dirty dancey fun and now with it's proper offering, the remixes hti just as hard and just as huge.
Now, let's not make it as if we're behind the times, because a number of official mixes of the song have already made a play for our ears in recent months. But with a drop 2 days ago via Ministry of Sound via Germany via their biggest package for the single as of yet, it's due time we feature the brills-ness of this badass song.
Official fixes come from: Riva Starr, Foamo, House Moguls (House of House), Panton, Kashii and Danton Eeprom. Spanning genres from dubstep to electro house and progressive, this package is one that will pelase all ears.
You can dig into 3 of the remixes in the player below, then after that, freshen up your music library with the Foamo fix. My favorite might be that House of House slice of sinfully spectacularity. Buy the single/EP here.
Mary Anne Hobbs, the legendary dub-head DJ on Radio 1, has announced that she will be leaving the BBC. After 14 years of serving the station, the Breezeblock host will end her tenure as one of the medium's finest on September 9.
In an official statement, via her MySpace page, Hobbs announced her resignation. Her words, as such, below. Super sadcakes.
After the statement, check out a video exclusive following Hobbs around her recent trip to NYC. Big ups to my pals Mitch and Oliver who aided in the production for URB!
LEAVING THE BBC... Yesterday i resigned from BBC Radio1, after an amazing multi-dimensional 14 year career. The great freedoms the BBC have given in me as a broadcaster, have allowed me to help break so many confrontational artists as diverse as Slipknot and Skream, and of course, the whole genre of Dubstep in recent times. My current Experimental show is in peak condition, it’s never been stronger. And although it’s a very emotional decision to leave the show that I love so much, it’s also an optimum moment to bow out, at the very top of my game. My work for Radio1 on the Breezeblock, Rock Show, many fascinating documentaries about everything from David Bowie to Dubstep, on daytime, at festivals and award ceremonies, has been exceptionally rewarding. These have been glory days not just for me, but for all the artists who have shared my BBC platform, and of course, the listeners everywhere from Beijing to Berlin, Baltimore to Blackpool, who shared a great passion for future sound. I will continue to DJ live, work in film, and curate at Sonar festival in Barcelona. I have also accepted a new job mentoring and teaching students at the University of Sheffield’s Union Of Students radio station, TV station and the newspaper that operate out of their superb Forge Media Hub, which presents me with a really exciting new challenge. My last show on BBC Radio1 will be broadcast: September 8th>>9th … Wednesday night >> Thursday morning… 2-4am Thank you so much for listening.
Starting the work week off on a Tuesday should be a practice instituted forever. It makes for miles of smiles knowing that there's no case of the Mondays here in Beastonia.
Just because we lost a day, doesn't mean we skip a bea[s]t. And on we roll...
