Garbage Working on New Album

Following the release of 2005′s Bleed Like Me, Garbage went on an "indefinite hiatus" and frontwoman Shirley Manson began work on a solo project but a mutual contract termination with the label ended that endeavor. The band briefly reunited to perform a gig at a benefit concert in 2007 and then released a greatest hits album inciting rumors that the band would begin working on new material.

On October 27 at the University of the West of Scotland, Manson announced that the band is now working on a new album. While chatting with students about a career in the music industry she said, “I’m working on a record right now with the band. We’ve recorded quite a lot but it’s difficult to quantify. It’s the first one in a long time. I took about five years off. I’d like to do some touring next year.”

She did not elaborate on the musical direction of the new album or when it would be released., but did note that, “We’re just winging it right now.”

This is the best news, oh, in EVER.

Now, let's jump back to August of 2005 when Garbage synced up with Peaches at NYC's Amsterjam festival. I was there and it's still one of my most favorite concert experiences ever. Check the video below.

Village Voice's 10th Annual Siren Fest: The Day That Was...Hot, Rad and Right On

With a lineup boasting emerging acts alongside some of our favorite establishees, this year's Siren Fest drew a massive crowd to the southernmost shores of New York City, via the Coney Island beach and boardwalk. With the temperature wavering around 95 degrees in equally humid conditions, 14 of the best summer-fest worthy acts kept it cool with a blend of unique styles and super sick skills.

Most of the acts we'd seen before, but it was the newcomers that really got us in a righteous mood, namely Screaming Females (which seemed to be the general consensus fest-wide). This 3-piece from New Jersey are young, talented as shit, and we're pining to hear more from them in a live setting.

Overall, it was an excellent day in which we heard a ton of awesome music, hung out and high-fived all of our favorite people, and got inexplicably tanner than we've been in a really long time.

A full collection of images from the day can be viewed here...in the meantime, select shots are below.

Remix M.I.A.'s Steppin' Up and You Could Win Insider VIP tickets to HARD LA!

This is just about to go live (2:00pm EST), but we've got the "few minutes early" scoop on how you can get VIP access to HARD LA! What is this event, you ask...and how does one go about winning such an amazing opportunity? HARD is the underground music festival brought to the surface of major cities, always boasting an increasingly hip lineup. How's that for a one sentence shot at enticing you? Let's read on.

M.I.A. is promoting her upcoming album, /\/\ /\ Y /\ (available July 13 on N.E.E.T. Recordings), and since she's repping a headlining slot at the fest on July 17, what better way to combine the music and the moshing than with a mix-it-up contest!

Details on how to enter the contest and be in the running for the coveted VIP tickets are below. (If you're not a mixer and still want to enjoy some tunes, download the free HARD promo album here, with songs from Crystal Castles, Soulwax, Die Antwoord, Flying Lotus, and more.)

Step up in the club and tool up your remix skills to win insider VIP tickets to HARD LA. Steppin' Up is the adventurous Rusko-produced second track from the singer's upcoming album. M.I.A. will celebrate the album's release by performing at HARD LA on Saturday July 17. M.I.A. and N.E.E.T. Recordings are working with HARD to give you the exclusive opportunity to remix the track. Here's how:

Step 1: Download the Steppin' Up acapella here.
Step 2: Read and agree to the full contest rules.
Step 3: Use the acapella and your own software and instruments to create your remix.
Step 4: Upload your remix to HARD's SoundCloud dropbox and share your track to the public before midnight Friday July 9. Your remix's title must include "HARD LA - M.I.A."

That's it! There's two ways to win: either by getting the most "favorites" on SoundCloud, or by impressing HARD & N.E.E.T.'s private panel of judges!

The Hundred In The Hands: In To It at Warsaw

You might have thought at this point, I'd run out of praising words to write about The Hundred in the Hands. So not the case, in fact, I've got hundreds of heartfelt hurrahs in my hands (see what I did there?) to dish out, especially after catching the pair live at Warsaw last night, playing to a full crowd of kids on the first night of Northside Festival.

Chalk it up to being on tour for the past month with The Golden Filter, or maybe it's a refinery of their sound since the release of their EP, but The Hundred in the Hands blew me away with a perfect performance, that was both engaging and entrancing. Beginning with the fan favorite, Tom Tom, the half hour set included an extended version of one of my favorite songs in Ghosts (video of that below) before rounding out with the much riffier and totally danceable song, Dressed in Dresden.

If I might...one more time...do your ears the hugest favor in the world and start obsessively listening to The Hundred in the Hands. Buy their This Desert EP here.

More images from last night's show can be viewed here.
