Florence and the Machine - Hurricane Drunk (The Horrors Remix)

You know how at the turn of this year, a couple of bloggers, including thineself, wept with wonder in regards to The Horrors' remix of Florence + the Machine's Hurricane Drunk? For posterity's sake: here. And while that was only the radio rip (oh, the, errr, horror!), it was enough to suffice. Forget that noise though, and replace your file with the official 320kbps version, which is neither new nor breaking, yet recently acquired and hitting every sensitive nerve spot right now. You are all welcome... to have an unending case of chills.

Last Night: So You Think You Can Dance's Blog-Worthy Musical Selections

It's rare that I find myself perched in front of a television in the evening hours during the week, especially during the summer months. Usually at a show, a friend's abode or perhaps a watering hole, last night, I stayed in thanks to a head cold, and found myself drawn into watching FOX's So You Think You Can Dance. Far be it from me to turn to reality programming, however, over the past few seasons of the show, it's one that I can always count on to entertain.

This season's "catch" is that the top 10 (now 9 and after tonight's results, 8) dancers are paired up with "all-stars" from previous seasons. For this music-minded telly-tuner-inner, however, it's the song choices that highlight some great, and some ooof yikes, choreographed numbers. SYTYCD has always had a solid rapport for choosing slightly "obscure for the general public" styled songs. (Think Roisin Murphy's Ramalama Bang Bang in Season 2.)

Now in its seventh season, last night's episode proved no different...although this go 'round, both the partner dances and individual solos were dotted with tunes known well throughout the land of blogs. If the show maintains this heightened level of musicality, you can assure I'll skip a few more venue gigs, stay at home to watch, then most likely embarrass myself by learning the choreographies.

Ladies and gentlemen, beasts, boys and girls...here are the blog-worthy routines, with video evidence.

Florence and the Machine - Cosmic Love (Isa Machine and Lexxx Remixxx)

Cosmic Love is the seventh and final single to be taken from Florence and the Machine's critically acclaimed debut album, LungsDue to strong digital sales of the track, the song charted almost a year before even being released as an official single after it was featured in an advertisement

The song sees an official release next week. It will be out digitally on July 4 and on 7" vinyl the following day. Track listing for each is as follows...

A. Cosmic Love
B. Cosmic Love (Isa Machine and Lexxx Remixxx)
Digital bundle
Cosmic Love
2. Cosmic Love (Short Club Remix)
3. Cosmic Love (Isa Machine and Lexxx Remixxx)

If the name Isa Machine looks familiar, that's because it might be to Flo-purists. An original member of Florence's "machine", and co-conspirator on the tracks Dog Days and Cosmic Love, Isabella Summers turned her hand to remix duties, turning out an eerie reinterpretation of the song. (Other sources note a contributing hand from Russ Fawcus on this mix, but the official track listing leaves him off, which is why I do too.)

Win a Miniature Tigers T-Shirt!

Just yesterday, I writ a bit about Miniature Tigers and their upcoming string of tour dates, one of which takes place here in NYC on May 29. But just one little hit of awesome info isn't enough, now is it? Hell, let's give away some free shit!

Apparently the boys are big fans of LOST, a show I can proudly say that I have never seen even one second of. So all of you Lost-philes can go pound salt and talk about it with each other. But wouldn't you want to do that while wearing a rad DHARMA tee from Miniature Tigers. (after a little research, I found that DHARMA is something integral to the plot-line...it's also the name of the shirt style...fitting.)

Want to win this killer shirt? Read on for details. (Also, pre-order their album Fortress here.)

Want to win the Miniature Tigers DHARMA T-Shirt? If you've frequented the contests here before, then you'll know we are cerifiably "twitter-crazy". So start by following us if you aren't already...winners get notified by DM, and the only way we can send you a beastly congratulatory message is if you're on board our tweetable train.

Next, simply copy and paste the below message and hit send in whatever tweeterrific application you use (we're partial to TweetDeck ourselves...)

yo @sheenabeaston, i wanna look sexy in a miniature tigers t-shit. also lost is cool, but i'm only saying that because i want to win!

That's all you gotta do...easy peasy. Contest will remain open until 9pm on Sunday May 23...that's when the LOST finale is, so I'm giving you enough time to hit me with your tweets, without missing the show.

Florence + the Machine: Cosmic Love (new video)

With new visuals from her unprecedented seventh single, from debut album Lungs, Florence + the Machine continue to wow in all sorts of timeliness and relevance...posing the titian-topped singer within a world of brilliantly lit dioramas.

Having just unveiled her video for album stunner, Cosmic Love, Florence prolongs the profound effects of her freshman offering, and hell, we're A-OK with that.

In other Flo news, on Friday, the singer will be taking her Machine onstage at London's Hammersmith Apollo for one of the most talked-about live shows. While tickets sold out in a matter of minutes, the lass will be sharing the live magic with all via a live global webcast of the whole show. You can watch here.

In the meantime, peep the video for Cosmic Love below.

Be[a]st Covers and Reworks

Occasionally, a cover, rework or re-interpretation of a tune will eclipse the original track in the format we've initially heard it. Rarely is it admissible that we'll dedicate an entire post to such songs, but recently, I've been tossed a few "it's hard to deny how rad they are" signature takes on others' tunes, and thereby, we're rounding 'em up and dishing 'em out.

First up is 22-year old Matt Palmer. I initially got wind of him when cool cat Raj over at EQ posted up his re-imagination of Rihanna's Rude Boy, dubbed Cardiac Arrest. Pretty slick how he turns the song in to a completely new arrangement...and he's done it again, this time taking Ke$ha's smash hit, Tik Tok, and stripped her lyrics out and replaced his own smooth tones, with Times Two.

Next up, Marina and the Diamonds dropped by BBC Radio1 Live Lounge and blew us away with a fantastic cover of an awful song. Here's the thing: even in it's original form, there was something interesting about 3OH3 and Katy Perry's track Starstrukk, and I mean something other than spelling it with 2 k's (really?). I wanted to like it, but couldn't support it in any sense. Until now. Thanks for the stunner, Marina.

Finally, Florence and the Machine go stripped down and sexy with a take on Mario Winans' smooth jam, I Don't Wanna Know. The session was recorded for Billboard and it is simply more beautiful than anything right now.

Grab all three slices of wonder below.

Beastly Bits #54 - Part Two

There's just been so much good to get today, that I simply must do another round of the bits.

This is a first...and definitely not something that will be frequented. Just sporadically as I see fit.

Last week, The FADER debuted a new remix of Marina and the Diamond's I Am Not a Robot. On an aside, we were just serviced it, so therefore, we pay it forward. Fool's Gold, the lovable lads and lasses from LA give the track their rubdown, and it's yours for free below.

Kate Miller-Heidke is playing a FREE show at Living Room tomorrow at 3:00pm. I suggest preparing your best "oooh my doctor just called and can fit me in" sort of excuse if you find yourself at a day job at that time. I might be doing the same. More details on the gig here.

The Return of Rococo party is back! This Saturday, April 17 at teneleven, the wildest baroque bash since the guillotine came down will pop off...complete with themed music, burlesque, fire dancing, live art and more. Pics from the last party can be viewed here, and details on the event are at this link.

Simply put...this track rules. MoonRunners sample Daft Punk's Around the World and churn out a fresh new fix titled Feels Like Magic. Oh yes it sounds like it too. Yours, for free, below.

Florence + the Machine take on Mario Winans' I Don't Wanna Know. Tastes Like Caramel's got the goods...so go check it out here. Major swoon worthy!

Beastly Bits #43

We're back in the 3 hours of sleep per night mode...also known as "hey beast, get your butt ready for the Austin SXSW radness you're about to dive into this week" functioning state of mind. I am already thoroughly spent, yet 100% excited for the cool to unfurl.

Don't worry...you'll be taken care of throughout my absence. Check out the banner at the top of the page for more info. Also, updates will be provided here...(for lack of another better word) provided I find the time to get my Austin act together.

Had a conversation last week that Lady Gaga is on the fast track to a nervous breakdown or emotional meltdown due to her hectic tour and promo schedule. Lo and behold, the lass suffered a bout of stage exhaustion (?) at her weekend gig in New Zealand. Watch her lethargic performance of Bad Romance, in which the lady lays on the stage and barely makes it through the number. Yikes.

Bloc Party's Kele Okereke has revealed that he will be playing a solo show as part of this year's Ibiza Rocks gig series. The ProdigyFlorence And The MachineDizzee Rascal and The Courteeners are among the other acts set to play shows on the island at the summer fest. More info here.

DJ Z-Trip is headlining the Sahara tent (THE dance tent) Saturday night at Coachella, and we've got his mix of Chic's Le Freak ready to pump you up. Grab it a short scroll down.
