Band of Skulls - Strict Machine (Goldfrapp Cover)

Earlier today, a few of us in the EVR office found a few minutes of solace whilst listening to some quick hits from Band of Skulls. The London garage rock trio easily slides in and out of everything from power riffs to Radiohead-esque tones, but did you know they're also pretty adept at getting their electropop on?

Band of skulls

Here, they cover Goldfrapp's Strict Machine, live on Australia's Triple J. BoS take the English duo's definitive sexy jam from boudoir to blissful.

Simply lovely.

Stream: Goldfrapp - We Radiate

Nice and new and nifty track from Goldfrapp. Comes from The Vampire Diaries soundtrack, whatever that is. Also, I debuted it on EVR's Belly of the Beast last night.

I suppose if you missed the show, then you also missed out out on what I like to think is a jam highly inspired by Hall and Oates, especially with those repetitive "ah ha ha ha's" and the daunting bass line, but that's just me.

And this is they...with the song, We Radiate.

I said it yesterday and I'll say it again. If Goldfrapp would have looked to Vince Clarke to assist in the production of Head First, maybe the full album wouldn't be such poo. His mix of Believer is below for you to make your own decisions.

Goldfrapp - Alive (new video!)

Pentagrams, goths getting "physical", gold lamé, smoke machines and vampiric tendencies! It's the video for the current Goldfrapp single, Alive, and Alison plays host to a cast of characters as she wields her powers to control the minds of obedient dancers as they prey on one another. That was quite a mouthful. That's what she said...she being that one chick in the vid who gets all "jugular bitey".

I think I've said all that needs to be said in the above paragraph.

Also, Alison is like a sexy Dracula or something.

Watch now.

Goldfrapp Announce New US Tour Dates

Coming off last week's release of their glitterpop album, Head First, British electonica duo, Goldfrapp, have finally added a handful of North American dates in addition to a previously announced late June gig in Los Angeles. This makes me happy, along with certain members of 2 other US cities. Everyone else, I'm sorry...but I'm not their tour manager. I just report the goods.

So are you one of the lucky few who will get to witness Goldfrapp in a live setting? If you've never caught them before, this is one show I'd suggest you get your tail to.

Here are the cities/dates. Tickets go on sale here next Friday, April 9.

June 21 -- 9:30 Club – Washington, DC
June 23 -- Hammerstein Ballroom – New York City, NY
June 26
-- Fox Theater – Oakland, CA
June 27 -- Hollywood Bowl – Los Angeles, CA

Goldfrapp - Rocket (new video!)

Ok, now we've got a deliciously-rad reason to smile...and dance...and tap our toes all afternoon long. Goldfrapp have unveiled their video for Rocket, the first single from upcoming album, Head First, due out March 22.

This video's got everything we love...Allison doing her signature "peer over the hands", a massive rocket, desert dancers, a cameo from Will as a gas station attendant. Not to mention, we're still completely infatuated with the song, and the others that have since been let out of the bag.

This video is 100% Beaston-approved...so watch it immediately! (UPDATE: seems like the below is overloaded...so if it's not playing, jump here for the full, or here for a snippet guaranteed to work)

There's snow on the ground in NYC this morning, and to accompany it, a huge dusting of music news to tackle.

Break out your warm duds and start shovelin' through this pile of the cool stuff!

Michel Gondry’s newest music video is for Mia Doi Todd’s Open Your Heart. It's colorful and all sorts of wonderful. Watch here.

Lucky LA-er's will be pleased to know that Goldfrapp is doing a one-off show at the Hollywood Bowl on June 27. Info here.

So what's the deal with the Def Jux rumors that have been swirling this week? Read all about the changes here.

Monarchy tackles Ellie Goulding's Starry Eyed with an outer-spacey slice of a mix. (it's free below) Goulding also announced 3 new UK tour dates which can be found here.

Goldfrapp - Rocket (GRUM Remix)

Many a beastly-friend and follower have asked why I've yet to properly weigh in on Rocket, Goldfrapp's lead single from upcoming release, Head First. Maybe I was just waiting to hear a stunning mix like this? Nah, I've just been busy, but thankfully, GRUM is keeping my brain and body occupied with a the soothing sounds of sexy synths.

Amping up the glamorously-delicious, described as a "Christopher Cross meets Pointer Sisters" vibe (seriously, listen to the intro to Cross' All Right and tell me it doesn't sound similar), the UK badboy floats the song over a fresh bed of lush love and luster

Accompanying mixes from Richard X (stream a snippet here), Tiësto and Penguin Prison, GRUM's remix will be released when Rocket is made available on March 9 via Mute.

Miss me? I yearned for you and some new music news, but the extended 3-day break from the site (and life, in general) was warmly welcomed on these tired bones.

Up and at 'em!

Beaston-faves, The Fire and Reason, play Mercury Lounge tomorrow, Tuesday January 26. They go on at 7pm and are opening for Ebony Bones (ticket info here). The duo has also released a new, exclusive track for us to hear. Grab Crawl below. Florence + The Machine has already started working on tracks, which she describes as "heavier" and "punkier" than her debut. Like Lungs, the album is being produced by Paul Epworth, who has worked with the likes of Primal Scream, Bloc Party and The Rapture. Read and watch more here. Enigmatic YouTube-user, iamamiwhoami, is back with a 3rd installment of their mysterious videos. Latest guesses still swirl around Goldfrapp, Christina Aguilera, and now include The Knife (in regards to their Darwin-opera) and now The Golden Filter. Have a guess? Let us know after watching here. Speaking of the London electropop-pair, Goldfrapp officially release first single, Rocket, from upcoming album, Head First. It leaked last week, and I'd be and idiot to post up the hi-qual mp3...instead, stream it here. Crookers continue to promote the heck out of their upcoming LP, Tons of Friends, by offering up another free cut from the album. Grab the Steed Lord-featuring track, Transilvania, over at RCRD LBL.
