Over the past few weeks, it's been debated how exactly the 10th Anniversary of Siren Festival, the free and rad Coney Island music bash, lineup would be announced. Some suggested skywriting, fireworks, Lolla-style wordboards and the like. What was deemed best and most efficient, however, was a simple write-up on the Village Voice site...sponsors of the annual summer soirée.
Proving to be in the know on both the up-and-comers, along with the "hey, we've had 'em and we want 'em again" band types, this years fest pays homage to those bands who've already rocked the beach, while keeping current with a bill of bands on the rise.
Prior to this year's July day of fun and sun, no band has ever played Siren twice. That changes this year when Matt and Kim ('07) and Ted Leo ('03) hit the stage again, with new bill-mates Surfer Blood, Pains of Being Pure at Heart and Harlem. Additional acts and DJs will continue to be named as the festival date nears.
Siren Festival is rain or shine on July 17. (Anyone else there in 2006 when Scissor Sisters played in a pretty vicious thunderstorm? That was a fun day.)
