Jessica 6 (ft Antony) - Prisoner of Love (new!)

Last month, we wrangled in NYC trio, Jessica 6, into the EVR studio on our weekly radio show, Belly of the Beast. (let's beat that fact over the head, as in, AHEM, you guys... it's Thursday, and the show is tonight at 8pm ET, so you should be listening right on ok thank you) Anyway, we dig them, and now they are offering up a new song, a free one if you will, from their forthcoming debut album, See the Light, which is due out June 7.

Prisoner Of Love [which] bridges electro and freestyle, featuring a soaring vocal melody that finds Nomi and guest vocalist Antony weaving their voices around each other to a stunning effect.

Those are some words from the press release.

Here are some from me: "I LIKE THIS A LOT". (and also ps: speaking of prisoners, and love, I was reminded of Colonel Abrams' Trapped... which talks about being in a cage, like a thieving bastard, and sounds nothing like this new song, but I really enjoy in this housey rework, and so you're getting that as well. pps: COFFEE RAMBLES!)

Nomi Ruiz (Jessica 6 and Hercules & Love Affair) Shares Live Track; Will Release Solo Album

Born and raised in Sunset Park, NY side by side with the rebellious growth of hip-hop, Nomi Ruiz began composing songs around heavy street samples at the age of 12. Her deep dreamy vocals and personal lyrical content found refuge in these raw arrangements, creating a unique brand of soul music, much along the lines of a road-worn version of Sade.

Most recognized for being an integral part of the Hercules & Love Affair debut album/world tour as well as currently fronting the sexy dancepop outfit, Jessica 6, Ruiz takes a break from the dance floor and steps back to her roots. Nomi will perform material off her yet to be released album, Borough Gypsy, on Saturday, July 17, at Joe's Pub at 11:30pm. Tickets here.

This special rare solo performance includes a full band with the likes of: Morgan Wiley (piano/keys), Ben Tyree (guitar), Jim Orso (drums), Marlan Barry (cello), David Azzoni (turntables), Andrew Frawley (percussion), Phil Rodriguez (trumpet), Julio Monterrey (saxophone), and Kevin Farrell (bass).

Sounds rad! Check out a live rendition of Nomi's new song, Scarred, below.

Jessica 6 to Open for Kele on July/August Tour

Sure I just posted about Kele earlier this morning. But then radness flowed in like a bolt of beastliness and there's more of the cool from Camp Okereke...along with the super chicness of NYC's own Jessica 6 in the form of tour dates together throughout the mid-summer months.

In support of Kele's upcoming album The Boxer, due out June 21, the lad will take his solo live show to North America with a number of stops which include the Brooklyn freestyle pop and dance-house trio serving as openers.

I'm still legitimately obsessed with their song Fun Girl, and only one question remains: "yo, when are we gonna hear new tunes?" Hopefully, the answer is soon.
