Bomba Estereo - Pump Up The Jam (Technotronic Cover)

Yes yes y'all...this is the one installment of the Levi's Pioneer Sessions series that I'd been most looking forward to. And, as expected, it does not disappoint. Olé, olé, olé!

Twenty-one years after Technotronic created a dancefloor masterpiece with Pump Up The Jam, Bomba Estereo have re-crafted the song in their unique big-beat, bi-lingual style. It sounds like Bomba Estereo doing Technotronic's Pump Up The Jam, only totally fresh and relevantly modern.

Video of some behind-the-scenes footage is below.

The Shins - Goodbye Girl (Squeeze Cover)

We're about halfway through revealing the cover songs done up by well-known artists for Levi's Pioneer Sessions. Ready for today's installment? Quickest post ever, and go!

The Shins wrangled James Mercer away from Broken Bells long enough to regroup and take on Squeeze's Goodbye Girl. It sounds like The Shins doing Squeeze's Goodybye Girl.

I told you I'd be writing these posts like that from now on.

Watch a behind the scenes video with Mr. Mercer below.

Dirty Projectors - I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine (Bob Dylan Cover)

Two days ago we dished on the coverings via Levi's Pioneer Sessions. Formulaic though it may be, here we find ourselves again, dosed with their second of the weekly installment series, and ready to weigh in on what the resulting cover song sounds like to our oh-so-trained ears. Jokes.

Here's your analysis on today's offering.

Dirty Projectors covered Bob Dylan's I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine. It sounds like Dirty Projectors covering Bob Dylan's I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine.

She & Him - Fools Rush In (Rick Nelson Cover)

Instead of a re-hash of info I brought you last week, I'll continue throughout the unveiling of Levi's Pioneer Sessions free downloads in this fashion. Here's a quick sentence: She & Him covered Rick Nelson's Fools Rush In. Then I'll post a picture.

Then I'll say something like, "hey this sounds pretty much like what you'd expect this duo to sound like when they take on a classic track as such".

Then we'll all smile, high five each other, download the track and be on our way.

Oh, but this time, we're posting the video too. Some say that variety is the spice of life.

The Swell Season - Young Hearts Run Free (Candi Staton Cover)

Earlier this week, I let loose a piece of info surrounding Levi's, cover songs, and the new chaps who are taking on the timeless tunes. Last go 'round it was Nas doing his best Slick Rick. In this installment, we go grassroots via disco with The Swell Season, and their take on Candi Staton's Young Hearts Run Free.

It;s the second in the series of Levi's Pioneer Sessions, and the Irish duo makes us forget that Staton ever had a disco-pop hit with her original. It's passionate and fragile, with a throttling of deep bass drums that turn the classic upside down and out.

Say word...this is spectacular.
