Mad Decent's Carniville Party at SXSW

If you're headed to Austin next week, let me guide you to what will be guaranteed as a raunchy rad time. Mad Decent, along with IHeartComix and Jelly are hosting the 3-day Carniville, featuring music, food, rides, games and more.

Performers include: Major Lazer, Sleigh Bells, YACHT, Acid Girls, GZA, Best Coast, MEN, and so many more killer acts that I'm kicking myself for not planning to be there.

Carniville takes place over the course of March 18, 19 and 20 at the Mexican American Cultural Center.

So how does one get in to the event? For starters, it's free. And secondly...go here to RSVP, you lucky fools.

Major Lazer - Bruk Out (Remix by Destructo and Uberzone)

Ready for some action? Cause Destructo is providing us with some hard-hitting radness to close out our workday. The LA dude bowls over Beastonia with a super gnarly fix and mash and now it seems like we're energized for anything that comes our way!

In case you didn't know, Destructo is Gary Richards, the founder of HARD Fest, which completely slapped us around last year, in the best way possible.

The not-to-miss event is making a grand return this year (dates below), but not before I bestow a mixed mash of slickness upon you. Destucto, and his pal Uberzone, took fellow "HARD performer" Major Lazer's Bruk Out to come up with a 5 minute trip of heavy drum beats primed to make you "shake it like that...and drop it down".

March 13 -- HARD 13 -- Los Angeles, CA

March 25 -- HARD WMC Pool Party -- Miami Beach, FL

April 3 -- HARD NYC -- Terminal 5 -- New York, NY

April 16 --  HARD SF -- San Francisco, CA

August 7 -- HARD Summer Music Fest -- Los Angeles, CA

October 30 -- HARD Haunted Mansion -- Los Angeles, CA

Major Lazer (featuring Elephant Man) - Halo (Beyonce cover)

While you were busy swooning over Lady Gaga and Elton John combining pianic-forces, or maybe you were trying to decode the extreme censorship of Eminem, Lil' Wayne and Drake's show-closing performance, someone was busy keeping me Grammy-entertained through twitter.

One half of the Major Lazer duo, Diplo, kept me abreast with winners, losers and general shenanigans during the telecast of the 52nd Grammy Awards. Whether he was dissing Taylor Swift via Daryl Hannah or claiming Susan Boyle was getting wild at an afterparty, it was all frequent fun through his timeline.

All the tweets were great, until one stood out in fine fashion.

SERIOUSLY CANT BELIEVE beyonce won a GraNNY when My VErSiOn of HaLo with elefant man + @majorlazer is SoOO MUCH BETTER!

Yep, and he gave us a link to download the track for free to. It's mine and yours below, and it's much better than you can possibly imagine. Big ups Elephant Man...where you been?

MNDR's Glitterdome of Absolute Awesomeness

Nerdcore lovers and geekcrits rejoice! Last year, I introduced you to the infectious beats coming out of one terrifically-talented artist, went so far as to name her a "Bea[s]t to Watch in 2010" and continually spun all three of her available songs on a consistent basis. So when an opportunity to chat with MNDR before a show this past fall presented itself, I geared up faster than the beats she bumps.

There's a lot to learn from Amanda Warner, a now-Brooklyn-native via California, whether it be musically-inclined or not. Focusing on her artistic skill set, however, is what I had aimed to do...gathering exclusive information regarding shoes, name pronunciations and pre-show jitters along the way.

SB: Ok, what's your story? MNDR: I came out here because the publishing company I was with a long time ago, we were signed there and one of the girls there was like I thought you'd be a good top writer, pop writer...stuff which I thought meant write full songs and then you try to pitch them. So I came out here with a bunch of songs I had fully done back in January. At that same time the Yeah Yeah Yeahs needed a new bassist, guitar, keyboard player and programmer because they were dropping their new record which was more electronic. So they hired me to set it up and be their new touring player so I was in LA for two months during winter [laughs]. So in between I'd go to producers and start top line writing. I didn't fully understand the difference between artist and writer because I'm a little bit new to that world. So then I met this producer Peter Wade, and he heard C.L.U.B. SB: Which is a totally killer song by the way. So uniquely rad!

Beastly Bits #10

I am in the funkiest mood ever today. The hair looks great, the clothes = on-point and after a shaky start to the day yesterday, the final hours of the day prior turned out mega super rad. But more on that later.

Naturally, when good stuff happens for us, we love paying it forward. Hell, you were getting these links anyway, but after all my words, I'm dumping a ton of tracks that I love on you...some for relevant reasons and others just cause they copntinue to rock my world.

Hussle Club is Prince Terrence, a noted NYC nightlife fixture and drummer for Santigold, Spank Rock, HEARTSREVOLUTION amongst others. I Have High Expectations For What I Want To Be But In The Mirror I Don't See Them Staring Back At Me and RCRD LBL has floor-friendly remixes from regulars Felix Cartal and Bird Peterson. Dragonette gear up to hit the road with Little Boots and Fan Death. Dates here, but sadly none in NYC (boo), so to remedy, gobble up a new remix of Pick Up The Phone by Arithmatix! (the alias of Micahel Van She). Ryan McGinley substitutes naked hipsters with collaboration-prone actress Tilda Swinton in a new short film for Pringle Of Scotland. Watch the gorgeousness ensue here. Muse announce 4 additional live shows through the end of Spring. Their third single, Resistance, from their latest album, will be released in the UK on February 22. Details on all this can be found here. Melbournian-DJ Andy Murphy's previous project was Citylife, which hit a beat of heat a while back on the blogs. His new collaboration with DJ Jori, however, is Jam Xpress, and they've dropped by with their Re-Jam of The Jackson 5's I Want You Back. It's free below.

mp3: Toni Braxton - Yesterday mp3: Alphabeat - Hole In My Heart (Chew Fu FixXx) mp3: Meck (Featuring Leo Sayer) - Thunder In My Heart mp3: Dragonette - Pick Up The Phone (Arithmatix! Remix) mp3: The Jackson 5 - I Want You Back (Jam Xpress Re-Jam) mp3: Major Lazer (Featuring Mr. Evil and Mapei) - Mary Jane mp3: Crookers (Featuring Kelis) - No Security (Bart B More Remix)

Beastly Bits #9

Starting the work week off on a Tuesday should be a practice instituted forever. It makes for miles of smiles knowing that there's no case of the Mondays here in Beastonia.

Just because we lost a day, doesn't mean we skip a bea[s]t. And on we roll...

Major Lazer announce a spring tour throughout the States. A limited number of tickets have been held for a special presale that begins today at noon. Go here to purchase. Little Boots reveals the fourth and final part of her "laser harp building" mini-documentary. Members of her site (or sign up, it's free!) can log-in here and view the new video. Tom Caruana threw together a mashed album titled Enter the Magical Mystery Chambers which pits Wu-Tang Clan versus The Beatles. It's available as a free download here. Greek DJ, NTEIBINT (which is apparently pronounced "David" via Greek wordplay), has done a shifty and nifty remix of Micachu and The Shapes' song Lips. I'm giving it away for free below.

The XX limited gatefold edition of their spectacular debut album is now available. Limited to just 500 copies worldwide, and created in celebration of the band's Sculpture of an Album exhibition, this very special release has been hand-numbered and signed by the band. Get on it quick and order here.
