Mash Up International and Gnucci Banana - Animal (new song and video!)

This song both thrills me and makes me super depressed in the same breath. The former, because well, Gnucci Banana and Mash Up International completely crush their interpretation of Miike Snow's Animal. Yeah it's killing me in all the right ways currently. As for that black cloud it's hanging over my head? Well all I really want to do is buck out and dance and wile and yeah...but seeing as how this Beast has been felled and is currently sporting the season's hottest new accessory (a super sexy walking boot for a broken ankle), I'm restricted to "chancing" at work (chair dancing). C'est la. I'll take what I can get.

Little Majorette - London

Sa sa sa-weet Swedish songwriting on this gorgeous NYC morning! Little Majorette are a name I'd heard floating around over the past year or so, but had never taken the time to fully ear up on. And sha sha sha shame on me for claiming ignorance, because quirky arrangements like the ones we're about to hear should not go unnoticed. Let's drum up some love!

Little majorette

Zoe Durrant, Petter Winnberg and Nils Tornqvist make up the trio, and each are already well admired within their respective music scenes. Zoe has recorded with Sneaker Pimps. Petter and Nils work side by side in the touring ensemble for Miike Snow, for whom Little Majorette was the opening act on their Swedish tour. Other side projects include Winnberg producing Fibes Oh Fibes and Tornqvist drumming for Lykke Li. Just. Yes. AWESOME.

LM's debut single, Bite the Bullet, was a huge hit in Sweden over the summer. You can watch the video for that track here. Or you can grab follow up track, London, which is found on the single EP as well. We've got the Dinamarca Remix of the song to hit you with too.

The original is a short and slick slice of fun. When the arrangement switches up at the :22 second mark, hold on to your hats. So much radness!

Miike Snow - The Rabbit (new single!)

Well, kind of a new song. When Miike Snow re-released their debut album as a deluxe version last month, a few new tunes and remixes popped up, including the above-mentioned, The Rabbit. While the band has been doing a bit of festival-appearing and city-touring, it seems like there's a new single in the works...this being it.

Now, I'd implore you to take this news with a grain of salt, because this hit of info came from a new source, and whilst serviced the song under the umbrella of "For Your Review: Miike Snow's New Single" it seemed to read just legit enough to warrant a post here.

I've loved the song since the first time I heard it and here we're given another opportunity to roll around in it's radness. No further details on an official release date et al, but I'll update when that time comes.

Or if this all proves to be false, then I'll eat crow and apologize, while you simply enjoy the tune.

Miike Snow Touches All Our Senses at Music Hall of Williamsburg

I'm almost embarrassed to admit that this past Friday was the first time I had caught Miike Snow in a live setting. Sure there's been many an opportunity as they've passed through NYC countless times, yet it always seemed as if they were playing on a night when I had other obligations. Such again was the case on March 26, however, there was no chance I'd skip this fantastic opportunity.

The first and most impressive aspect you'll notice about a Miike Snow show is that its's truly a treat for all the senses. Well, maybe not the sense of taste, but every other perception and mentality is pretty well covered.

Lights, masks and smoke add a dynamic visual quality to your sight. The touch and smell of a crowd, rabid with fandom goes above and beyond anything I've experienced in a closed venue like Music Hall of Williamsburg this year. And the sound, well, c'mon...saying it was anything less than spot-on perfection is doing the band a great injustice.

Championing the crowd through near sing-a-longs of each of their album cuts, Andrew and his mates impressed whether behind keys, wielding a mighty guitar or simply leading a chorus of Black and Blue. Known hits and new tunes rounded out a great night of music, which began with Spanish lads, Delorean, warming up the crowd with their exacting dose of indie pop-rock. (full set of pictures from the show can be found here)

So maybe I lied...because that 5th and final sense was present. You can totally taste the passion and drive that both of these magnificent acts have. Eat it up.

twack marks #15 - Crookers - Tons of Friends

If the simple release of a track list can make you desire to hear an album, then let Crookers' debut, Tons of Friends, be the barometer for all your pre-yearnings for a good listen. Corralling guests like Kelis, Roisin Murphy, Drop the Lime, Miike Snow and more, the Italian DJ-duo easily eclipsed my highest level of "wanting to hear" way before any tracks were let loose.

Twack marks_crookers

Let me say, that on first listen in its entirety last week during their official streaming listening party, I was floored with the variety of guests and musical tones pumping forth. Credit it to a virgin hearing experience, because when we threw on the album today, something entirely different happened.

Sure there are tons of friends, but there is also a slow start to really getting into the album. Save for the Pitbull feature 3 tracks deep, the album really doesn't showcase the boys' talents until 8 cuts in, when they rope in Yelle for a French boudoir bumper. The majority of songs we favor are those in which they do enlist the support of the female vocals. Maybe it's the feminine vs masculine disparity that they were able to harness, but regardless, each of the womanly-warbled tracks sit high atop our list of best of the album.

As a full album, it's not one we'll go back to very often, save for those few tracks. Take the Roisin Murphy-voiced Royal T; easily a contender for top dance floor filler of the year so far. Intermittent cheers for the dudes on their debut.
