The Creators Project: Mark Ronson Set on EVR

You thought I was done ranting and raving about last week's The Creators Project launch event, didn't you? Well my little beasts and buddies, here's the final piece of the puzzle that was an amazing day. Once again, thanks to VICE and Intel for hosting one of the funnest days/nights we've had in like, a really long time.

 

 

Last Saturday's event was capped off by a closing night set by Mark Ronson. Manning the decks at the stroke of midnight, the talented turntablist started off with a few select cuts before welcoming MNDR to the stage. This being the first live performance of his (along with her) song, Bang Bang Bang, the crowd went rightfully nutso! MNDR then did Sparrow and Fade to Black with Ronson backing her on the decks.

 

After spinning a collection of new and old hits (think Missy Elliott mixed with Aretha Franklin et al), Ronson also brought out Alex Greenwald and Rose Elinor Dougall to sing cuts from his upcoming album, Record Collection. Ronson ended his set with a bit of Somebody To Love Me, another track from the disc, with vocals from Boy George.

 

If you missed the event, never fear. Mark Ronson's Authentic Shit airs from 8-10pm on East Village Radio tonight, and the evening's programming will be a live recording of his set from The Creators Project. Tune in!

This is definitely a multi-purpose post, and thanks to rad-man, Bxentric, we only need to have writ up this one piece. Why, you ask? See, I've been on a bender lately. A music bender in which nearly every other song I press play for results in his mix of Flight Facilities' Crave You blasting through my headphones. Best addiction to have. Truth.

 

 

  

So that led me to today's "diggings" for more from the UK mix-master, resulting in an almost hour-long mix he put together of some of the best new, official, and as of yet unheard remixes of your favorite songs.

 

Within the mix, he's got Russ Chimes' official hit of Mark Ronson's Bang Bang Bang (I DIE), along with DFA-dude Tim Goldsworthy's rub up of Monarchy's Love Get Out Of My Way that makes me want to cry because it is 100% perfection in every way. Introducing: Sunday Girl

Got an email yesterday with nothing more than a link to a new video, from an artist I had previously unheard of. Think of it as a way early heads up on some new tunes that you're sure to swoon for. Everyone, please welcome Sunday Girl to Beastonia!

 

Sunday Girl hails from London, has only been a MySpace user since earlier this month, and she's got one track in the bag that immediately made me want to hear more. Four Floors is an electrotinged pop tune that washes listeners in a hushy and lushy bath of rhythmic ethereality. Made up words!

This being Sunday Girl's debut single, I was pleased to see that big badasses, Russ Chimes and Diplo (along with Sketch Iz Dead) are on board the remix ride. Four Floors sees a proper outing on March 28.

Russ Chimes' Expressway Mix Pt 1 (free mixtape)

For your listening pleasure, I'm dishing out the first in a series of mixtapes from one of the most exciting producer/remixers, Russ Chimes. The London lad continually churns out excellent reworks, including ones done for Ellie Goulding, Marina and the Diamonds and The Golden Filter.

 

  

Chimes is cranking out a number of mixtapes, featuring some of his finest work, along with those of his esteemed colleagues. This first one, titled Expressway Mix Part 1, highlights his impressive body of work, along with fixes from some Beaston faves, including Phonat, BURNS and and Grum.

The Golden Filter - Voluspa (new video!)

In lieu of their upcoming album, Voluspa, The Golden Filter are back with another incredibly teasing and intriguing video. While this isn't restricted to one song or another, seems like it's been on the YouTube for a few weeks, but has yet to receive any attention.

  

  

Voluspa will be released on April 26, and TGF continue on in their enigmatic promotion by offering up a  5 minute video with more eerie sounds and images to match. We see a levitating woman who eventually makes her way down an ominous set of stairs. The nature theme is still quite prevalent as well.

Additionally, the vocals repeat a spooky "the end is the beginning, is the end is the end is the beginning, is the beginning...", along with a handful of other head-scratching words.
