The Like - Wishing He Was Dead (new video!)

Retro radness this afternoon, courtesy of Los Angeles' The Like. Taking the song Wishing He Was Dead, from sophomore album Release Me, and washing it over with a "new old" video, the femme foursome pay homage to their influences with a stylized black and white shooter that's all sorts of grrrl power and awesome. The single comes out August 30 in the UK, but you can buy the album here.

Be[a]st Mixes (Ludacris, The Like, Reset!, etc...)

Compilation post...what what! A bit of a catch-all and a beast of some mixes that you might like to have filling up your library. Or at least I'd like to think so...

Ludacris

Much like her single, Dancing On My Own, I've hit SUPER OBSESSION status when it comes to Robyn's Hang With Me. In addition to the remix provided by Kaiserdisco, we've got the second ace official fix from Reset! and it's a galloping doozy of a bum shaker.

mp3: Robyn - Hang With Me (Reset! Remix)

Want to know what happens when Gaga touches privates with a bunch of hoes, in different area codes, specifically? The White Panda mesh Alejandro with a Ludacris jam and the result, surprisingly, works like a trick on a corner...smooth and slick.

mp3: Lady Gaga x Ludacris - Alejandhoes (The White Panda Mix)

Retro-tingers, The Like, get a rubdown from our pal Viking, on their song Release Me. This long player is a sweet slice of melodic mmmmmmm's.

We can always count on T-Minus 321 to dose us with something unique and equally killer. This time, he's grappled wit M.I.A.'s Steppin' Up. Big and bad.

mp3: M.I.A. - Steppin Up (T-Minus 321 Remix)

Flight Facilities' Crave You is easily one of my most favorite songs of the year. The C90s rev it up a bit and stretch it out, prolonging the love even further.

The Like to Release Second Album on June 15

After catching Los Angeles' retronically-rad girl group, The Like, earlier this month, we've been on a listening spree of sorts in anticipation of their second album, Release Me, which was originally slated for a "summer release". Now, we've got the official word, as well as tour dates...and we're 100% positive that most of these throwback tunes will end up on a poolside playlist or two. Most likely whilst imbibings of the 3-olive martini sort go down.

Produced by Mark Ronson, Alex Greenwald, and the soul and studio sophistication of the Dap-Kings’ Tommy Brenneck, Homer Steinweiss, and Victor Axelrod, The Like will let out Release Me on June 15 via Downtown Records. The album came to life at Dunham Studios in Brooklyn where the girls stepped into another time – recording only on analog equipment with gear from the sixties.

Frontwoman, Z Berg notes: “What Mark did systematically was take the songs right back to their original form. We spent almost 48h ours straight with [him] arranging the songs properly before we went into the studio, and then recorded them live."

Jump below for tour dates from The Like, in support of their forthcoming album.

The Like: Fair Game for a Fine Night of Retro Chic

Formed in 2001 during their formative mid-teen years, Los Angeles' The Like have transformed from indie-alt rock kids to a polished troupe of young ladies who create nouveau retro pop-rock with a sassy twist. Rooted in the era of early 60s British pop girl groups, this foursome have a sleek and signature sound that caught the attention of Mark Ronson (he's producing their new album, due out in June) and The Arctic Monkeys, with whom they recently joined on tour.

Paired up with Zac Posen for the launch of his new line at Target last night, The Like performed a full set for early shoppers and fans. One thing we noticed about their performance, and that we loved to the max...the band goes straight from one song into the next. No banter in between and as the last chord of one song hits, the drum beat of the next one begins. Stylish and seamless!

We can't wait to hear the album, especially Wishing He Was Dead (you can stream it here), which quickly became our favorite song by the girls. It's got a Doors' organ vibe meshed with the soulful nature of The Shirelles. Beaston approved!

Full set list as follows, more pics and video after that, and complete set of last night's imagery can be viewed at this link.
