VV Brown Plays Bowery Ballroom Tonight; Will Launch Comic Book Series on May 7

Retro styled pop music and graphic novels. They go hand-in-hand, right? If you furiously shook your head no, then you're probably in the same "hmm, say what?" boat as I am. Thankfully, we've got a bit of info on the fantastic VV Brown, some upcoming live shows, as well as the debut of her new line of graphic novels and comic books.

First up, if you're not headed to Brown's show at Bowery Ballroom...well, you probably should be. Tickets are still available here, and the London lass puts on a great show, with a set of dynamic pipes to match. If you find yourself in another town in the near future, let's hope it's one of the 3 below.

May 10 - San Diego, CA - The Loft (UC San Diego)
May 12 - Los Angeles, CA - The Troubadour
July 10 - Minneapolis, MN - Basilica Block Party (Church Stage)

Now on to the more "randomer" part of this post. Yep, VV Brown is a huge fan of graphic novels and comic books and as a result of this passion, she has created her very own comic book series, titled City of Abacus, which is due to be published and released beginning May 7, 2010. Check out the cover here as well as an exclusive peek inside the pages of the series. I'm intrigued!

The rain continues to pour down in NYC and with it, a storm of new material continues to drop into our laps. We're ok with it.

Pop your umbrellas, we're in for a shower of songs and sweet news bits!

The Courteeners, Editors and Noah & The Whale have been added to the Isle Of Wight Festival line-up. They join Jay-Z, Vampire Weekend and The Strokes at the June event. Tickets here.

MissOmniMedia has a great feature on Holy Ghost! Read the piece here then jump a spell down for a remix from the NYC DJ-duo that we won't ever quit playing.

If you're going to SXSW, be sure to hit up the FILTER/Dickies parties. Great lineups, a taco truck and live poster printing. RSVP is free here.

Tickets for the Little Dragon show on March 27 at Mercury Lounge go on sale this Friday at noon. VV Brown, who we saw last week, supports. More info at this link.

In a moment of guilty pop pleasure, I'm giving you a free remix of Timbaland and Katy Perry's If We Meet Again, as gifted to us by the UK's Loose Cannons. Their Blame It On Rio Mix makes us forget the two joined forces for the original.

VV Brown Took Us Back in Time at Hiro Ballroom

Fashion week has been a bustling and busy flurry of events, shows, musical performances, and well, there's a lot of clothes too. One artist who's been successfully placing her stamp all over NYC these past few days is London's VV Brown. A handful of performances, DJ gigs and appearances all over town make this lady a "land shark" in our east coast waters.

With her debut album, Travelling Like the Light, seeing a stateside release back on February 2, Fashion Week seemed the fitting opportunity for Brown to make her mark on wanting ears.

On Wednesday, VV brought her show to Hiro Ballroom for a night of throwback tunes capped by a crisp voice...and some colorful adornments of the headdress-kind. Coursing her way through nearly each cut from her debut release, Brown proved she has the chops to make her mark on mainstream media here, as she has done so in her homeland of fair Londontown.

While Brown still has strides to make in terms of general stage presence (we really dig the megaphone, gong and additional props, but were left wanting eye contact and connection with we, a fresh new audience), overall, we left the venue rising a high of retro radness, even though we had to wait over an hour and a half for her to start.
